Where Should A Ductless Mini-Split Be Installed?

Consider two locations for this installation, i.e., one for your inside air handler and another for the outdoor compressor unit.

• Indoor Unit Location

The indoor unit is frequently best placed high on a wall away from direct sunlight. Depending on your home comfort requirements, you may install the unit accordingly. You may hire a professional to calculate the space and the size of the unit required for your home. The indoor unit installed on an exterior wall should be no more than eight feet from the floor to avoid air being directed upward.

If you plan to install many indoor units, distance them out so that each one has ample room to function effectively. Above each indoor unit, there should be at least two inches of accessible area to maintain optimum ventilation and comfort. Indoor units should be placed in places that allow for even air distribution throughout the space.

For the best comfort, install an indoor unit directly above beds or on bedroom walls. Avoid installing the unit near a TV, microwave, or any other source of electromagnetic interference. The air handler will require regular maintenance and cleaning and must be situated in a readily accessible location.

• Outdoor Unit Location

Any shady place outside your home is ideal for your outdoor unit. Install it on flat ground that can hold its weight. The surface should be strong, rigid and flat. All sides of the unit must have at least 2 feet of clearance for optimal airflow. Make sure it’s not too close to any plants or foliage, which can obstruct the air movement of the system. As the outdoor compressor emits heat, do not place it near windows or doors.

The longer the refrigerant lines are, the greater the distance between the indoor and outdoor units. Longer lines cause more heat loss, lowering the efficiency of your system. As a result, it’s essential to keep the indoor and outdoor units as close to each other as possible.

Install it on vibration-absorbing surfaces to avoid premature component damage. It is also essential to keep it in a location where the technician can do repairs and maintenance.
